Alex Popov wins Tri-state tour stop in New Jersey
The Tri-State Tour recently stopped at Sandcastle Billiards in Edison, New Jersey to host a $750 added stop. The tournament took place on March 27th and it attracted a field of 30 players. It was Alex Popov who outlasted the field and earned the first place win. Popov beat Ken Debroske on the winners side final four 6-4 to advance to the hot seat match. There he met Randy Mackin, who had just beat Joe Varvaro 6-3. This match went hill-hill and Popov earned the win 6-5.
Debroske did well on the west side beating Qian Chen 7-3 which sent Chen home in fifth place. Varvaro tied with Chen after he lost to Richard Ng 6-4. Debrokse and Ng would compete in the quarter finals and Ng earned the win after a hill-hill match.
Ng would advance to the semi-finals to face Mackin. Mackin was sent packin’ for a third place finish and Ng would then face Popov in the finals. The finals were another hill-hill toughie but Popov prevailed and remained undefeated in the competition to take the win.
