Billy Tyler Wins Viking Championship Billiards Event
This past weekend, the Viking Cue Amateur 9-ball Tour held a $2,500 added National Championship Series in Atlanta, Georgia. The Series began on August 9th, with the Main Event kicking off on Saturday. The event was hosted by Mr. Cues II and had one hundred and six players vying for the top spot.A mini event took place on Saturday during the Series where eight players, all amateurs, played a winner take all match. The event was a single elimination event in a race to seven format. The winner from this event was Travis Dorn. The South Carolina native won the first place prize of $800.
The Main Event also took place on Saturday and had eighty two players. Billy Tyler was up against Jason Stemen in the first set and Stemen won 7-3. Then in set number two Tyler held an early lead with 4-0, but Stemen was not going to give up just yet and came back to 4-4. Play continued strong between the two players until the last rack. Stemen broke and the cue ball ended up in the side pocket. Tyler of course got ball in hand and an open table. Tyler went on to run the table and grab the win. Tyler won a total of $1,525 for his first place finish.
On Sunday, there was another mini tournament that consisted of 16 players, all amateurs. The tournament was a race to five with single eliminations. It was Shane Little who took home the top prize of $500.
