The WPBA San Diego Classic took place at the Veijas Casino in Alpine, California on March 10th to the 14th and the tournament had sixty four players competing. The event was a huge success and it was Gerda Hofstatter who earned the first place win after defeating Shu-Han Chang of Chinese Taipei in the finals.

Hofstatter defeated Lisa Davids, Angelina Paqlia and Kyoko Sone on her way to the finals. Once she was in the final sixteen she defeated Monica Webb and then advanced to the quarter finals. She then defeated Ga Young Kim and then Karen Corr to make the finals.

Chang defeated Laura Smith to then get sent to the one loss side by Corr. She then beat Jasmin Ouschan, Jeanette Lee and Xiaoting Pan in the semi-finals to make the finals. But her run would stop there as Hofstatter was on a roll and she would earn the first place win.
