John Alicea Wins Predator 9-Ball Tour Stop in Queens
Master Billiards in Queens, New York recently held the third A-D event of the Predator 9-Ball Tour. Sixty players registered to compete in the event and New York’s best amateur players showed up to participate. John Alicea was one of the top amateurs competing and he managed to outlast the field and take the win. During the tournament the format was used that pitted C-D players against each other on the bottom half of the bracket while the A-B players took the top half of the bracket.
Ed Hugh was a good contender for the top spot when he beat Shorty Santiago, William Finnegan and John Chong. Hugh then moved on to face Alicea where Alicea won the match 7-4. Jay Chiu was up on the C-D side defeating Ron Mason 7-4 and then moving to the hot seat against Alicea. The match ended up going hill-hill but in the final game Alicea was able to come out on top.
In the end it was Jose Cruz and John Alicea who would face each other in the finals. Cruz and Alicea had to compete in the best of nine and Cruz was up 2-0 in the beginning but the both would go back in forth before Alicea took the final match and the win.
