Shane Van Boening Wins Texas Open
G-Cue Billiards in Round Rock, Texas was the place to be for this year’s Texas Open Billiards tournament. One hundred and twenty eight players came to compete in the $3,250 added event. Shane Van Boening would be the victor in this series after playing against Gabe Owen not once but twice before claiming the first place prize.By Monday September 1st, Van Boening and Owen were the last two standing both undefeated in their 64 player brackets. Van Boening had a little better record with 54-20 to Owen’s 54-30. Charlie Bryant was the only player who gave Van Boening any trouble. Van Boening had only given up thirteen racks until he beat Bryant 9-7 in the final four. Van Boening would then face Owen for the first time.
While Van Boening was working his way up to the top, Owen was beating Dave Henson 9-4 and Ismael Paez 9-7 to get to the hot seat match. During his first match against Van Boening, Owen would move to the semi finals after losing 9-6.Paez and Bryant moved on the one-loss side to face Glenn Atwell and Shawn Putnam. Putnam and Atwell would advance to the quarter finals where Putnam would win 9-3. Early Tuesday,Van Boening would then face Owen again and as with last time, win the match 9-6 and take the first place prize.
